Oh hey there! If you’re new here, my is Emme! I’m a family and couples photographer in Donnybrook, WA. If you have been here before then welcome back my friend! Today we’re chatting about another one of my favourite couples! Let’s get straight into it!
This is Cass and Mitchel! I jumped at the chance to work with these two for several reasons and they did not disappoint! We had such a great time exploring Point Peron in Rockingham and catching up! Cass and I actually go back a couple of years and seeing her again was an absolute blast! She’s always been one of the kindest and loveliest humans to cross my path.
She truly met her match in Mitchel and back when we did this shoot they had been married for just under a year. They were giving allllllllllll of the adorable newly wed vibes this day and they really brought my vision to life!
While we were hanging out they told me the cutest story of their meeting. They had a ton of mutual friends and almost met several times before the night that Cass rocked up at Mitchel’s door ready to host a worship gathering with this guy she’d heard about but never met. Mitch opened the door and they were instant best friends!
Since then they continue to host these evenings as well as open their home for friends regularly and I just love the way they match each others hearts for the world so effortlessly!
Cass was telling me that the moment she just knew Mitchel was her forever was on a date with him at Lesmurdie Falls. And then that same spot at Lesmurdie falls is exactly where Mitchel decided to propose a little further down the track! Everything about these two is just so in sync and aligned and I loved it! The opportunity to third wheel with them as they adventured together and just enjoyed each others company while I took a million photos of every little moment was just such an honour!
Here are a few of my favourite moments from this day!
Honestly, going back through these photos has me remembering how much I LOVED what we created! I was, and still am, SO proud of this shoot!
Okay let’s get a little more into the photography side of things!
This was one of my very first shoots back in the day! And something I loved about it was how much I got to experiment! We stopped at just about every little clearing with any kind of view or cute lighting. I played with soft light, harsh light, low light, all of it. We played with levels, movement, posing, directing, foreground, different angles, honestly just everything! And I can genuinely say that I learnt so much just from 90 minutes of running around with these guys!
But something else I want to highlight here is that experimenting also means flopping! I came home from this shoot with upwards of 1000 photos and I think we ended up with roughly 100 good ones. Not everything I try works, believe me! But I am SO friggin’ glad that I try anyway because look what it got me!
I just want to encourage you to go for it! Whatever it is that you want to do, just give it a red hot go! Because even if nine times out of ten you fail, I promise that the one time you get it right will be so worth it!
Something else that sticks out to me about this particular shoot is how many of these photos were barely even directed or planned! I love love LOVE capturing candid in-between moments this shoot was full of those! That doesn’t exactly just happen though. Okay well it might if you have GORGEOUS AMAZING LOVE BIRDS for clients who just blow your creative vision out of the park!! But there is also a little bit of a method behind this and I want to share just a snippet of that process for me!
Candid photos are amazing, right? But for ANY kind of photo to come out looking natural, relaxed and fun, the subjects need to feel comfortable. Now I don’t know about you, but if some rando stranger that I had never met outside of my email inbox shoved a camera in my face and asked me to smile, I would start shrivelling up inside. There is nothing comfortable about that!
So I make dang sure that that is not how my sessions go down! I want my clients to not only feel comfortable, but I also want them to have FUN! I want to create a space for them to enjoy each other, to create memories and to basically be on a date! There are a bunch of ways I do this. I get to know them, I prioritise chatting and asking them question, we take breaks from pointing a camera at them and I ask them to DO things rather than stand a certain way. And I LOVE the results this gives me!
But more importantly, I love what this does for my clients. I love watching people walk away from their shoot feeling more connected. I love giving them an opportunity to stroll down memory lane and remember the sweetness of their story and how they feel about each other. Relationships are so important! And they are so central to the rest of our lives! They need to be nurtured and cared for constantly. A little piece of my heart in this biz is always going to be fostering a safe space for couples to connect and pouring into their relationship in anyway that I can.
My marriage has taught me so much and I have such a passion for coming alongside other couples and seeing them succeed! Photography is just one medium through which I can do that.
I feel like we just jumped all over the place but if you made it this far, Thankyou! It means SO much to me when you read my posts, I’m so grateful!
